TABLES IN MS WORD

 

1.        How are tables useful in MS-Word?

The representation of data in the form of rows and columns is called a table. The tables are simpler way to understand and read the data.

 

2.      How can we insert a table of any size in MS-Word?

In order to insert a table in a Word document move the cursor the place where you wish to insert the table and then click on the insert tab then on tables icon and drag the pointer to select the number of rows and columns you need then click once you have finished and the table will be inserted.

 

3.      What are the various operations that can be performed on a table in MS-Word?

We can move within or navigate inside a table from one cell to another.

a.       We can enter date in a table

b.       we can insert columns, and rows in a table

c.       we can delete rows and columns

d.       we can merge cells

e.       we can split the cells

f.        tables can be styled by adding borders and colours.

 

4.      What is merging of cells? How can you do it?

Merging of cells means to combine two or more cells into one cell.  We can merge the cells by the following steps:

a.       Select the cells in the row or column

b.       Click on the LAYOUT tab

c.       Click on the merge cells option given in the merge group

 

5.      What is splitting of cells? How can that be performed?

Splitting of cells can be explained as the opposite of merging of the cells. In this case, a cell can be divided into several cells in the same row or column. The following are the steps to split a cell:

a.       Select the cell you want to split

b.       Click on the layout tab

c.       Click on the split cells option given in the merge group

d.       A dialog box will appear asking for the number of columns and rows to be created within a cell

e.       The cells will be merged

f.        The date in the former cell will appear in the first cell after splitting
