1. How is the Independence Day celebrated?
Every year Independence Day celebrated on 15th August. The
Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour at the Red Fort in Delhi and delivers a
speech. The country pays homage to the martyrs
who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for independence.
2. How do Hindus celebrate Diwali?
Diwali is the festival of lights celebrated by the Hindus.
Houses are beautifully decorated with earthen diyas, candles, lamps and lights.
It is a festival marked by a vibrant display of fireworks.
3. How do Muslims celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr?
Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr at the end
of their sacred month, Ramadan. During the month the Muslims keep fast from
sunrise to sunset. Special prayers are
performed, people wear new clothes. On this festival, people also donate money
and give food and clothes in charity.
4. What do the Sikh do on Gurpurab?
Gurupurab is the festival of the Sikh community. Sikhs all
over the world bring out huge processions. People go to the gurudwaras to
listen to Guruvani from the Guru Granth Sahaib, their holy book. Langars are
held where thousands of people get free food.
5. How do people celebrate Onam?
Onam is known as the festival of flowers. It is the harvest
festival of Kerala. People clean and decorate their houses with rangolis and
flowers, worshipping the deities, music, dance, sports and boat-racing mark its
celebrations. People wear new clothes, jewellery and eat special food served on
banana leaves.
