COMPUTER AND ITS FUNCTIONS

I.               DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING:

1.     Hardware and software

Hardware: Physical components of a computer that we can see, touch and feel are called the hardware

Software: is a collection of computer programs, procedures and documentation that performs some tasks on a computer system.

2.     Input devices and output devices

Input devices are those which are used to enter data and information into a computer.

Output devices are those which the computer uses to display the information and results.

3.     Printer and scanner

Printer gives printouts of our work on paper.

Scanner is an output device that converts paper image into digital or electronic images and then flashes them on the monitor.

4.     Touchpad and touchscreen

Touch pad is a touch sensitive pad used instead of a mouse on the laptop computers.

Touch screen is a screen through which data can be entered by just touching it with a finger.

5.     Hard copy and soft copy

The document printed on a paper is called a hard copy.

The document that is in the computer as a file is called a soft copy.

II.            ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS:

1.     What is the function of a CPU?

The CPU is the brain of a computer, where it processes and stores the information, performs calculations and sends the result to the output devices. It performs all the jobs that we want it to do.

2.     What is the IPO cycle?

IPO - Input, Processing, and Output cycle takes in data, processes the data and then gives the output.

3.     Why is a touchpad often used as an input device in laptops?

Touch Pad is used instead of a mouse on the laptop computers. It is a touch sensitive pad. We can control the movement of the pointer on the screen by moving the finger on the touch pad.

 

4.     How can you distinguish between CRT and LCD monitors?

CRT monitors are heavy and take up lot of desk space. Whereas the LCD monitors are light in weight use less power and take up a very little desk space.

 

5.     What is the use of a projector?

It is a device used to project an image on a flat surface like compute screen. It is mainly used in presentations, seminars and meetings. They are also used in schools.
