INDUSTRIES

 

1.  Define industry

The place where raw material is changed into finished product by the process of manufacturing is called an industry.

 

2.  What do you understand by the term cottage industry?

The products of cottage industry are man-made products. In a cottage industry, production usually takes place at home with the help of family members. It sues limited resources. Such industries need simple machines and only a few people to work.

 

3.  What is a mineral-based industry? Give two examples.

The place where the minerals are used as raw materials are called mineral based industry.  Iron and steel industries, petrochemicals, cement and aluminium industries are the examples of mineral based industries.

 

4.  Name the places where silk textile mills are found

Silk textile mills are at Mysore, Bengaluru, Kanchipuram, Surat etc.

 

5.  Where are the shipbuilding industries situated?

Shipbuilding units are situated in Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh, Kochi (Kerala) and Mumbai (Maharashtra).
