RENEWABLE AND NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES

 

1.     Define natural resource.

Many things are found in nature. Some of them are directly used by us whereas some of them are processed to produce various utility products. These are called natural resources.

 

2.     What are renewable resources?

Some natural resources are available in plenty in nature. They never get exhausted. For example, air, water, soil, plants, animals, solar energy and wind energy. These are called renewable resources.

 

3.     Comment on non-renewable resources?

Some minerals and fossil fuels are available in limited quantities in nature. They include petroleum coal and minerals like iron, copper, aluminium etc. these resources are called non-renewable or exhaustible resources because they will be finished, if used unwisely.

 

4.     What are the uses of solar energy?

It is used for street lighting, water heaters and cookers based on solar energy have become quite popular. Solar energy is also used to pump water for irrigation and drinking.

 

5.     How is coal formed?

Coal is black in colour and is formed over a long period of time from the remains of plants and animals. It is used to produce energy.
