1.  What sound did the poet first hear?

The poet first heard a knock at the door.

 

2.  What did the poet do when he heard this sound?

When the poet heard this sound, he listened, then opened the door and looked left and right.

 

3.  What noises from outside di he hear?

The poet heard the beetle tapping in the wall, the screech owl’s call, and the cricket whistling

 

4.  What was the night like?

The night was dark and still.

 

5.  Which noise came from the forest?

The noises that came from the forest were the screech owl’s call, the cricket whistling, and the dewdrops falling.
