SOME PROPERTIES OF WATER

1.   Mention three physical properties of water.

a.   Water has a fixed volume

b.   Water occupies space

c.    Water flows easily

 

2.   State the three forms of water

Three forms of water are:

a.   Solid form

b.   Liquid form

c.    Gaseous form

 

3.   State the two conditions which affect the making of a solution

a.   A solute dissolves faster in water when it is stirred.

b.   A solute dissolves faster in water when it is heated.

 

4.   How is solution formed?

A solution is formed when two or more substances mix together and dissolve completely. The substance that dissolves is called a solute and the substance in which a solute dissolves is called a solvent.

 

5.   What is the difference between soluble and insoluble substances?

The substances which dissolve completely in water are called soluble substances. The substances which do not dissolve in water at all are called insoluble substances.

 

6.   Why does some of the objects float on water while some sink in water?

Objects lighter than water remains on surface of water. This is called floating. On the other hand objects heavier than water go down to the bottom. This is called sinking.
