1. What are continents?
Continents are large landmasses which are surrounded by oceans on all
four sides. They represent the primary division of the land there are seven
continents on the Earth. They are Asia, Africa, North America, South America,
Antarctica Europe and Australia.
2. Write a short note on Asia:-
Asia is largest continent of the world both in terms of area and
population. Asia is surrounded by oceans on its three sides. The Arctic Ocean
is present in the north, the Pacific Ocean is in the east and the Indian Ocean
is in the south, Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world, lies in this
continent.
3. Define seas:-
The water bodies that are smaller in size than oceans are called seas. Sea
is a body of salt water which is, generally, a part of the ocean and is
attached to a continent. A sea can be open like the Arabian Sea. It can also be
partially surrounded by land. Such seas are extensions of oceans. For example,
the Mediterranean Sea is an extension of the Atlantic Ocean and the South China
Sea is a part of the Pacific Ocean.
4. What is a lake?
A lake is a small water body that is bound by land on all sides. It is a
depression on the land surface where water accumulates. It is filled either by
surface water or ground water or both. Lakes can be found at very high
altitudes and also at the sea level. Lakes can be freshwater lakes or salt
water lakes.
5. What is a river?
A river is a stream of water which originates from a highland. It flows
continuously on a path and finally drains into a lake or a sea. The place from
where a river originates is called its source. The place where a river
originates is called its source. The place where the river ends into another
water body is called its mouth. Rivers are a natural source of water.
