OUR
ENVIRONMENT
1.
What does the term
environment mean?
Environment refers to
the natural world of air, water, and land etc. where human beings animals and
plants live. It comprises the circumstances, objects or conditions by which one
is surrounded. Environment includes both biotic and abiotic components.
2.
What do the Abiotic
components include?
Abiotic components
include non-living things like land, water and air. Land is the solid surface
of the earth on which human beings, animals and plants live.
3.
Mention any two
positive aspects of the interdependence between the different regions of the
world.
People all over the world
are interdependent and interconnected. Countries depend on each other which
creates global interdependence. Some countries have a well-developed industrial
sector but are not good at agriculture. On the contrary, some countries have a well-developed
agricultural sector but are not good at manufacturing things. The countries
which have a good industrial sector export industrial products and import
agricultural products. On the other hand, countries good at agriculture, import
industrial items and export agricultural products.
4.
Explain Global warming.
The steady rise in the
Earth’s surface temperature as a consequence of increased greenhouse effect is
called global warming. Due to global warming the ice on the earth is melting
slowly. This is resulting in an increase in the mean sea level. Heat waves
droughts blizzards, etc. are increasing. The habitat of plant and animal
species is being largely disturbed.
5.
What is the ozone
layer? Why is it depleting?
Ozone layer is a belt
of ozone gas in the atmosphere which prevents us from the ultraviolet radiation
of the sun. Pollution is the main reason
of the ozone depletion. Pollutants like chlorine, smog, bromine and other gases
are depleting the ozone layer. Harmful smoke are weakening the protective ozone
layer.
