PUPPY AND I


1.     How many other walkers did the poet meet on the way?

The poet meets five walkers on the way. : man, horse, woman, rabbits (we do not know how many rabbits!) and the puppy.

 

2.    Where were most of them going?

Most of them were going down to the village.

 

3.    What kind of day was it?

It was a nice fine day.

 

4.    Where was the woman going and why?

The woman was going down to the village to get some barley.

 

5.    What answer does the poet give to the rabbits?

The poet says to the rabbits: ‘No, not I.’

 

6.    What answer does the poet give to the puppy?

The poet says to the puppy: ‘I’ll come with you, Puppy.’

 

7.    What kind of work are the walkers doing?

The walkers are working; going to the village to get food for themselves or their animals.

8.    How is what the puppy is doing different from what the others are doing?

The others are working; going to the village to get food for themselves or their animals. The puppy is going away from the village, up to hills to roll and play.

 

9.    What kind of person do you think the poet is? How can we tell?

 The poet is someone who likes to play in the countryside; the poet does not want to join the workers. Perhaps the poet is a carefree person.
