THE NOUN : POSSESSIVE CASE

 

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:-

1.     Define the use of possessive case? Explain with an example?

When a noun is used to indicate relationship or ownership, it is in the possessive case. The possessive form of a noun is used to show belonging or ownership. The possessive case is mainly used with the names of the living things. We use the preposition ‘of’  for expressing the possessive case in non-living things.

Ex. My aunt’s pen is in her hand. An apostrophe (’) is added to a noun to show possession.

Elephant’s ear, cats tail etc.

The tyre of the car.

 

2.     How a formation of the possessive case of singular nouns are formed? Explain with an example.

when a noun is singular, the possessive case is formed by adding‘s’ to the noun.  Ex. This is Richa’s pen.

 

3.     How a formation of the possessive case of plural nouns are formed? Explain with an example.

When a noun is plural and ends in‘s’, the possessive case is formed by adding only an apostrophe (’).

Ex. There are many boys’ hostels in the city.
