1.  What does the constitution of India define and explain?

The constitution of India is a set of rules and laws according to which our country is governed. It defines the position and powers of the three organs such as the executive, the legislature and the judiciary. It explains the relations between the government and the citizens as well as the rights and duties of the citizens.

 

2.  Comment on the Nature Of The Constitution Of India?

The chief characteristics of the constitution of India are:

a.  Written constitution:-  The written form of rules and laws.

b.  Longest constitution:- India has the longest or lengthiest constitution in the world. It had 395 Articles and 8 Schedules.

c.  Rigid and Flexible constitution:- Some parts of the constitution are amended by a simple majority of the parliamentarians.

d.  Federal Form of Government:- India provides for a federal form of government where in central as well as the state government govern the country.

e.  Parliamentary System:- The parliamentary system of India is the central government is answerable to the parliament of India and a state government is answerable to the state legislature.

 

3.  List two directive principles of each category:-

a.  Principles promoting Economic Equality:- Equally provide adequate means of livelihood like wealth and resources of the country to all the citizens. Give equal pay for equal work to both men and women.

b.  Gandhian Principles:- provide free and compulsory education to children up to the age of 14 and protect the children and youth from any kind of exploitation.

c.  General Principles:- Preserve and improve the environment. Promote international peace.

 

4.  List the six fundamental rights of the citizens of India?

The six fundamental Rights of the citizens of India are:

a.  Right to equality

b.  Right to freedom

c.  Right against exploitation

d.  Right to freedom of religion

e.  Cultural and educational rights

f.   Right to constitutional remedies.

 

5.  List four fundamental duties of the citizens of India?

a.  We need to abide by the constitution of India and uphold its ideals, institutions and emblems.

b.  We need to cherish and uphold the ideals like freedom, non-violence democracy, secularism, etc.

c.  We need to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity, integrity and render national service when called upon to do.

d.  We need to promote harmony, spirit of brother hood and respect the dignity of women.
