1.    How does the body structure of a bird help it to fly?

Birds are very light because their bones are thin and hollow. Due to light weight birds can fly easily. 

 

2.   How do birds use their beaks?

Birds have different types of beaks depending on the kind of food they eat. They have no teeth. They use their beaks for eating, to pick up things and to feed their young ones. Beaks also protect them from their enemies.

 

3.   How many types of feathers does a bird have?

Different birds have feathers of different colours and shapes. They are both light and strong. They help the bird to keep their bodies Warm. Feathers are of three types:- they are down feathers, body feathers, and flight feathers.

 

4.  What is the special future of the feet of water birds?

Feet of ducks and swans are joined by a soft and thin skin between the toes. This type of feet are called webbed feet. Their webbed feet help them to push water backwards while swimming.

 

5.   How do birds fly?

A bird flaps its wings to push through the air and rises up slowly into the air, its wings make two types of movement- upward movement and downward movement. In an upstroke, the wings are thrown upwards and backwards. While in the down stroke the wings are pushed down wards and forwards. The tail helps to change the direction of the flight.

 

6.  Why do birds build nests?

Birds build nests to live, lay eggs and raise their babies. Nests save them from their enemies and bad weather.

 

7.   What do you mean by hatching?

Once the nests is ready, birds lay their eggs in the nests. They sit on the eggs to keep them ward till the young ones come out. This is called hatching.

 

8.  Write any three ways in which we can take care of birds.

We can help them by giving them grains and water. We should place bird baths in a garden, balcony or any open places around us. We should also place bird feeders to feed hungry birds.
